The NSW IPC is an independent statutory authority comprising two public offices: the Information Commissioner and the Privacy Commissioner. This site provides information to members of the general public as well as public servants and provides links to other useful Privacy related sites.

Australian Privacy Foundation

The International Association of Privacy Professionals Australia and New Zealand (iapp ANZ).  The Australian Privacy Foundation is the primary association dedicated to protecting the privacy rights of Australians.

Biometrics Institute

The Biometrics Institute is an independent body of mainly user groups, both government and private, dedicated to ensure ethical and appropriate use of biometrics.

The NSW Civil & Administrative Tribunal

A search under the Tribunal Decisions will provide case law on all of its decisions under the NSW GIPA and Privacy Acts.

Australasian Legal Information Institute

Additional case law can be found through the Australian Legal Information Institute (Austlii) site. This site should be used to monitor changes to GIPA and Privacy legislation and regulations.

The NSW Attorney General is the Minister responsible for the GIPA Act and the Department responsible for carrying out his wishes in this regard is the Department of Attorney General and Justice.

NSW Information Commissioner
The NSW IPC is an independent statutory authority comprising two public offices: the Information Commissioner and the Privacy Commissioner. The IPC works to ensure the objectives of the NSW information access and privacy legislation are achieved by:

  • promoting and educating the community and agencies about people's privacy and information access rights under the legislation
  • assisting government, business and the public to understand and use the legislation
  • reviewing agency performance and decisions; investigation and conciliating complaints
  • providing feedback about the legislation and developments in law and technology relevant to it.
